Meet the people who make it all happen.

My favorite place on the ranch is on Panorama Point where I can watch the sunset over the awe-inspiring oak studded ranges. When I’m not photographing or researching birds, you will still probably find me outside running the rangelands, bicycling the Cienega vineyard loop, or making bird noises.

I love participating in creative problem solving with our incredible teams. Not only is farming with nature an exciting intellectual puzzle, but it requires a "relationship with place" and I find that very fulfilling. In regards to my favorite ranch spot, There is a majestic, grandmother Valley Oak that is likely over 400 years old, which I could sit under all day and let time wash away.

Favorite part of work: The best part of my job is being out on the rangeland working with my dogs and horses either gathering and moving cattle or herding our sheep flock onto the best feed. Favorite ranch plant: My favorite plant by far is the buckwheat that grows out on the rangeland. It starts out blooming white or pink and turns deep orange or red as the summer progresses. And the sheep love it!

If I had to be an animal on our rangeland, I'd be a cow. Contemplating ecosystem functions while chewing my cud.

I love that my job has so many moving parts and I never know what the day will bring! On any given day, I could be giving tours, working in the freezer, picking farm fresh flowers for guests, or sitting in a pasture with the pigs! The Paicines Ranch is a dynamic, magical place and I am so grateful to work here!

By improving and maintaining grasslands, I hope to contribute an example of how terrific meat, via good grazing practices, fits into ecosystem restoration and climate resiliency.  As shepherds, we utilize ruminants to support a whole lot—biodiversity, soil health, photosynthetic capacity, water infiltration and retention, perennials, fuel load reduction, and wildlife corridors!  Each day is spent both humbled and jazzed at the opportunity to figure out how good animal husbandry and solid stockmanship impact land health. Meat is grass is sun!
