Over 500 acres of Class 1 certified organic irrigated cropland are part of Paicines Ranch. Currently the majority of this land is leased out for organic row crop production. Recently we have developed a transition plan to convert this farmland into biologically diverse perennial and annual polycultures that incorporate planned livestock grazing as an integral component of management. While agriculture has historically meant the severe simplification of ecosystems, our intention is to reverse this trend and to dramatically increase soil health and biodiversity while maintaining economic viability.
